OBITUARIES

Lola C. Rowley

Lola C. Rowley, age 86, of Marysville, WA, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died August 15, 2003. She was born January 24, 1917 in Balfour, ND.

Lola grew up in Balfour and graduated from high school at age 15. That same year she began attending Minot State College in North Dakota and at age 18 started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse.

In the late 1930's she moved to the Marysville area where she continued teaching. It was there, she met and married the love of her life, Ivan Rowley. He preceded her in death in 1972, but she remained married to him in spirit to this day.

She resumed her teaching career for a year in 1953, when the Marysville School District suspended kindergarten and she was chosen by the parents, at their own cost, to teach kindergarten to their kids. She also volunteered in many organizations including Cub Scouts, Children's Orthopedic Guild, March of Dimes, PTA, often serving as a board member and President.

She was the bookkeeper for the Rowley/Elzea family businesses and continued her full time bookkeeping for the Windemere Real Estate office in Marysville until her death.

Lola leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Rowley; two grandsons, Scott and Jeff Rowley; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at the Marysville United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be given to Housing Hope of Snohomish County or Marysville YMCA.

Arrangements entrusted to Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville.
