OBITUARIES

Kenneth Arthur Rowley

Former consultant radiologist Victoria Hospital, Blackpool (b 1923; q Manchester 1946; FFR, DMRD), died from lung cancer on 18 January 2004.

Educated at Manchester Grammar school, after qualification he worked at Salford Royal before joining the Royal Army Medical Corps. A six week course in radiology was followed by posting to the Gold Coast, where he found himself command radiologist, west Africa. On return home he trained in radiology at Manchester Royal Infirmary and St Mary’s Hospital.

In 1954 he became senior consultant radiologist at the Victoria Hospital, Blackpool, taking a small department to a large and first-class one. As a member of the International Radiological Protection Committee he travelled widely.

In his younger days Ken enjoyed dinghy sailing and became a keen salmon fisherman. Latterly he liked his snooker, his daily crossword, and his computer. He leaves Mary, his wife of 56 years; two sons, one a cardiologist; and two granddaughters. [P R Duncan].
