BURIALSThe remains of David Rowley, civil war veteran and honored citizen was laid to rest at Union Mills Cemetery. David Rowley was born in Crawford co. Penn. June 25th 1842 and departed this life at his home in New Sharon, Iowa Feb. 17 1926 at the age of 83 yrs. 7 mo. 22 days. At the age of 7 in the spring of 1849 he came with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood. In the fall of 1861 at the age of 19, he went to Fulton co. Ill. where he enlisted with Company I 57th.Illinois infantry. After only two months of training he was sent to the front and took part in several engagements, among them being the fight at Ft. Donaldson and the battle of Shiloh, and marched with Sherman to the sea. He was mustered out of service at Louisville, Ky. July 6 1865 at the close of the war. He was married at that time to Miss Caroline Crawford. to this union eleven children were born. Mr. Rowley was at one time a member of the Baptist Church in Fayette co. Iowa. He was a kind , thoughtful and loving father, a good neighbor and friend. |
