Born 25 May 1761 Granvile, Hampden Co., MA to Samuel and Miriam (Shailer) Rowley. His brothers were Jeremiah, Samuel, and Abijah. [NOTE: MF4:153 does not recognize Roswell as a child of Samuel and Miriam (Shailer) Rowley. Nor does Brainard in NYGBR 37:204-5. However, NSDAR records claim Phineas was born to "Rosel" Rowley and his wife, Lucinda Tinker at Granville, Massachusetts. ]
